Dear Parents,                                                                                             

     First, let me tell you that I am very proud to be working with such a great group of students this school year.

    Secondly, I am pleased to have this opportunity to introduce myself to you. My name is Glenna Basnight and I am your child’s 5^th grade classroom teacher.  I am a 2009 graduate from Elizabeth City State University with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. I am a native of Tyrrell County and I am very dedicated to the education of the children of our great school system.

    There are many changes this year and it will take all of us working together to make things work.  Although, the computer labs have been cancelled because of changes to our budget please rest assured that your child will still work on the chromebooks dialy throughout the school year.  I am going to do my best to get grades posted to PowerSchool weekly.  If I am late, please be patient. I will assist you in setting up your PowerSchool account so that you will be able to review your child’s grades as you deem necessary.

     My homework policy will include reading and spelling homework Monday through Thursday nights.  Spelling tests will normally be on Friday.  Reading tests will normally be on Friday.  We will be reading both fiction and non-fiction this year. 

     We will learn a lot this year but we will also have a lot of fun.  I am a firm believer that you are your child’s foremost educator and I look forward to partnering with you for the success of educating your child.  Together we can instill a love of learning that will last the rest of your child’s life.
